The launching of the Project Supporting the Inter-Agency Commission on Gender Equality
The launching of the EU Project “Support to the Inter-Agency Commission on Gender Equality, Violence against Women and Domestic Violence Issues” was held with the participation of Government, EU Delegation, International Organisations, Civil Society representatives on January 18, 2018, at the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia.
EU project to Support to the Inter-Agency Commission on Gender Equality started in October, 2017. It will be completed by May 2019. The main contractor is NIRAS Sweden and the consortium member is CPM.
The Gender Equality Commission (GE Commission) of Georgia is both the main partner and the beneficiary of the project. The project will also support other stakeholders, line Ministries such as: Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Labour Health and Social Affairs, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Justice, National Statistics Office of Georgia, Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, Municipalities, Media and Civil Society.
The specific purpose of this project is to assist Georgia’s executive, legislative and judicial authorities in advancing gender mainstreaming into public administration.
In light of Georgia’s recent ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against women and Domestic Violence (The Istanbul Convention), EU Delegation is supporting Government of Georgia in implementing its formal commitments undertaken under the Istanbul Convention.
Georgia has an extensive gender equality framework in place and it has strengthened its gender equality policy through the establishment of the Inter-Agency Commission on Gender Equality in June 2017.
The project includes these components:
- Strengthening institutional mechanism
- Supporting the gender-segregated data collection
- Improving capacity on Gender Responsive Budgeting
- Raising public awareness and strengthening communication among partners
The target cities of the project are: Tbilisi, Gori and Zestaponi.
