MANDATE
Inter-Agency Commission on Gender Equality, Violence against Women and Domestic Violence represents an institutional mechanism formed at the executive branch of the Government of Georgia with the advocacy of civil society organizations and development partners – Governmental Decree N 286 (12/06/2017). The Commission is the responsible body for consolidating policy-making in the field of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment. The Commission also represents a domestic coordination and monitoring mechanism envisaged by Article 10 of the recently ratified Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention). It represents a venue for close cooperation with international organizations and active engagement of civil society. The Commission serves as a platform to inter alia, design, execute, monitor, evaluate, advocate and mobilize support for policies that promote the advancement of women and girls in Georgia. The Commission is mandated to develop thematic Action Plans on Gender Equality, Violence against Women and Domestic Violence; implement the UNSC Resolutions on “Women , Peace and Security”; promote and support implementation of gender mainstreaming in all the ministries; implement / promote implementation of gender policies – National Action Plans – including monitoring and evaluation of these policies; support/promote sex-segregated data collection, analysis and research; support capacity development in executive branch institutions in the area of gender equality and women’s empowerment; draft and initiate laws in close cooperation with Gender Equality Council and/or relevant ministries; develop concrete measures / policies to implement the recommendations of the CEDAW and relevant Special Rapporteurs, as well as of UPR and other international commitments/processes including Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
